About Me

7 Broomsticks Bindery is founded on April 2022 by Patricia Chamora, usually called as Pat. As of writing this in May 2022, she is a 20-year-old university student from Indonesia, majoring in Visual Communication Design with Creativepreneurship as its concentration and currently is attending her third year. Many get confused between Visual Communication Design and Graphic Design. Visual communication design is the art and practice of creating visual content to communicate information, ideas, or messages to a specific audience. It encompasses a wide range of mediums, including print design, digital design, packaging design, branding and identity design, advertising, and more. It involves the creation of various visual assets, such as logos, brochures, websites, posters, billboards, and other marketing materials. It is essential for businesses and organizations to communicate their brand, products, and services effectively to their target audience. It helps to create a strong and memorable brand identity and enables companies to stand out in a crowded marketplace. Whereas graphic design is a specialized area within visual communication design that involves the use of graphic elements to communicate a message.Founder has a keen interest in acting/voice acting and singing. MinaLima, the graphic design studio of Wizarding World, is mainly the reason why she gets interested in Visual Communication Design.Vintage, retro, classic, and gothic aesthetic are the founder's forte.
The Beginning of Journey
Based on her research, in Indonesia, there are not many traditional bookbinders. Mainly it is because in Indonesia there are lots of digital print shops and book publishers thus making the art of binding a book a scarcity. This causes the supply demand to be very low. Supplies and tools such as toner foil and bookpapers are incredibly expensive when purchased individually. It is not uncommon that in order to obtain only one of the binding materials, it is necessary to import goods from outside. With Indonesia being a developing country, it is no help either to make things easier. Especially with the customs procedure. All the things combine are the reasons why there are not many traditional bookbinders and founder cannot participate in exchange program inside the community. This also makes it hard for people who love to read fanfictions to have physical books of it. To acquire it, Indonesians have to purchase it elsewhere, even from a distant countries. That is why she decided to become a fanfiction bookbinder to provide those who want to get their hands on it despite all the struggles. Especially in the Southeast Asia region. However, she does not limit herself. She will also provide those in need from all across the world if they have any interest in her works. Not just fanfiction, but she also offers commission of making original work book cover design. Bookbinding is still a brand new thing for her and it certainly becomes a new hobby ever since she discovered it. For her, this is just the beginning and she hopes she could spread her wings more about it.

• Costs & Policies
- I do not take any profits off of binding fanfiction. In United States, fanfiction and all its character fall under a copyright law of transformative works. According to Dr. Betsy Rosenblatt, an intellectual property professor of University of Tulsa, United States and Chair of the Legal Committee of the Organization for Transformative Works, non-commercially distributed fanfic is seen as legal in the United States as long as it's a transformative work. Therefore, it is illegal to make any profit as it is already available to read for free. I only provide the craftsmanship of binding a book to people who prefer and want to have a physical book of it. Creating a cover from a fanfiction is a hobby of mine. Having a handbound fanfiction is a privilege.
- The policy and cost for original works and public domain books will be different from the fanfiction one. Since I aim to be a book cover designer, I also offer commission of making book cover for original works. Public domain books are books that are not covered by intellectual property rights or copyright, usually because the rights have expired.
- To know the cost of fanfiction commission, kindly DM me in Instagram. One of my policies as a binder is that I don't share the cost publicly since there are lots of people who want to give the books as present for someone. Personally, I don't want to ruin the magic of it.
- I only work at cost for fanfiction, meaning that I charge for materials and shipping cost only—which will depend on each fanfiction book and the country destination.
- The cost will vary from one fanfiction to another because it depends on the cover design, thickness of the book and how many volumes of it. Therefore how much I use the materials. Please do keep in mind that the material cost between each binder will differ because of where we live. However, I would gladly share the breakdown of the material cost if asked.
- Once I design and release a book, unfortunately I can't change the design because I measure everything manually. I use digital foiling instead of HTV, meaning that if someone asks me to change the design, I will have to change everything from the beginning

Frequently Asked Questions
● How many books can I commission on you if I manage to get a slot?
I usually do not have any kind of limitation but it all depends on the situation, I'd recommend you to talk about this more to me via Instagram's DM.● How many available slots per month?
I do not have an exact numbers for it because it will depend on my school schedule since I am currently a full-time university student. I put a lot of care in my education.● I manage to get a slot and would like to send the author of the fic your handbound book. Can I?
Of course you can. I'd be delighted to do it and I will prioritize those.● I would like to learn how to bookbind from you. Would you like to teach me about it?
If I ever have the time to teach you, definitely! Since my school schedule is always packed with homework and projects, I cannot promise you this. However, there are lots of other binders that offer a free tutorial in their TikTok/Instagram/any of their social media. One of them is Hana Bob in TikTok. However, if you have any questions about papers or printing technology, hit me up! I hope with this, I could help you more. I'm mostly active in Instagram so kindly drop me a DM.● How long can I expect to get a hand of my book if I manage to commission from you?
Possibly a month or more since I have classes and other activities. Binding books at the moment is just a hobby of mine and not a priority.
When I finish, I immediately will ship it to you. About shipment, it can take 3 days until 3 weeks to arrive but it all depends on where you live. Please don't rush me into making your commission because binding books require lots of steps and tenacity. Generally, sewing a typeset can take 2-5 working days (can be more if it's thick).● I manage to get a slot and I would like to request a fanfiction to be bound. Is it possible?
I have my own personal fanfiction and project list that I prioritize but I'm open to any kind of fics. However, if you request a fanfiction I don't familiar with (especially the pairing), unfortunately, I may have to decline. If by any chance I'm able to bind it, it will take a longer time for me since I have to figure out what kind of typography and concept that would match with the fanfiction. The reason of this is mainly because I want to create something that will give you the best reading experience, since in my opinion, a requested fanfiction is a special one to the person. Although, for this, I would really recommend you to learn how to do it so you can bind yourself whatever fanfiction you want to get a hand on. I will also check author's permission for every fic you have requested. If ever the author does not allow commissions of a certain fic, I may have to decline, unless there is a special case regarding it which I certainly have discussed with the author beforehand.● Are you sharing your typesets?
Every binder reserves the right on their work policy. Unfortunately, as sad as this is, I am unwilling to share any of my typesets in fear of someone would use it illegally IN ANY FORM (including the distribution via e-commerce). This is mainly because I ALREADY have found my typeset to be commercially distributed in one of Indonesian e-commerce companies, with them claiming it as theirs even though I put my name and brand on it. However, there are lots of other binders who share them. You can ask their permission first or see their terms and conditions. I hope that you respect my final decision as unfortunate as this is.● Do you sell the dust jackets you've made or accept commissions of making the dust jacket of a certain fanfiction?
No, I do not. Mainly this is because the thickness of each book is different. Especially if you get it from another binder. My dust jacket measurement reserves only to my typeset and not to other binders.● Do you use linen cloths/leather for the book cover?
No, I do not as of now. The main reason behind this is that, with paper, I can do much more exploration since I can do many things with it. It's easier for me to work on them as well because of the experience and knowledge that I have. Furthermore, I do not use Cricut or HTV to make foilings. Instead, I use a technique called digital foilings with toner-reactive foil and toner ink as its main material. If you want to learn more about this, please do not hesitate to contact me via DM in Instagram. I would gladly help you.● Your binding is not as many as others. Why is it taking so long for you to bind a book?
When I bind a book, I tend to read them first in order to list all elements that I can visualize. Then I start to sort them and look for which concept style I will use. In this part, I often do some research and see lots of other book covers as reference. This is why my process is a long one. I care a lot about details and easter eggs since I want to make the book as unique as possible. It requires lots of steps and also tenacity when it comes to designing and binding books. Not to mention, I don't use Cricut/HTV to make the foiling so I have to measure everything manually.● Can I use your commissioned art for my typeset or as my book cover?
Unfortunately, as sad as this is, I do not allow my commissioned art to be used by someone else, except the illustrator or artist. The art that I commission will be drawn based on my concept or how I want the art to look like. Usually, I will have some agreement with the artist/illustrator about this. However, you can use the non-commissioned art that the artist/illustrator shares publicly. I would advise for you to always ask their terms and condition about it first.● Do you bind public domain books?
Yes, I do. But then again, I have my own priority list for public domain books. For more updates, please kindly visit my Instagram since I'm heavily active there.● Will you make a rebind of a book?
I plan to. For more updates, please kindly visit my Instagram since I'm heavily active there.
